The Cycle Of Change – Step 3

Cycle Of Change

It is important to get a sense of what your Change journey looks like to further help you navigate your way through the process of putting change in place.

The following Cycle of Change diagram demonstrates the Five significant steps through to succeeding in making change in our lives.

Cycle Of Change 1
Cycle Of Change 1

The Five stages of change are:

Precontemplation

Not yet acknowledging that there is a problem behavior that needs to be changed

Contemplation

Acknowledging that there is a problem but not yet ready or sure of wanting to make a change

Planning/Determination

Getting ready to change

Action/Willpower

Changing behavior

Maintenance

Maintaining the behavior change

Relapse

Returning to older behaviour’s and abandoning the new changes

Cycle Of Change 2

At Impact, we see the word of ‘Relapse’ to mean a ‘Wobble’ or a ‘Blip‘ We also see this moment as an opportunity to learn what we can do differently at the planning stage.

The transtheoretical model of behaviour change assesses an individual’s readiness to act on a new healthier behavior, and provides strategies, or processes of change to guide the individual through the stages of change to Action and Maintenance.
